VACCINES
and DEWORMING
Kittens and Puppies receive their first examination and vaccine
at 6-8 weeks of age, and are boosted every 3-4 weeks thereafter until
they are at least 12 weeks of age (kitttens) or 16 weeks of age (puppies).
Vaccines are boosted once a year at the time of your pet’s annual health
exam.
Puppies and kittens should be dewormed for both roundworm and
tapeworm at the time they receive their annual vaccine, then should be
dewormed annually thereafter.
Canine annual vaccines include parvo, distemper, infectious canine
hepatitis, coronavirus, and adenovirus.
We also recommend vaccinating for:
Rabies (once every three years after the first annual booster);
Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine if your dog goes to obedience,
agility, the groomer’s, dog parks, dog shows, etc.;
Lyme disease if your dog picks up a large number of ticks.
Feline annual vaccines include feline leukemia, feline distemper,
and respiratory viruses. We also recommend vaccinating for Rabies (once
every three years after the first annual booster).
SPAY AND NEUTER
We recommend that all non-breeding animals be sterilized.
Recommended age for canine and feline spays varies from 16 weeks to 6
months; we recommend that most large breed bitches be spayed early.
Neuters may be performed as young as 16 weeks, but is usually performed
at 6-7 months of age.
